Previously Mr Makary was the Head of MENA/GCC operations at
Business Development Asia LLC in Bahrain where he was responsible
for building the firm's regional footprint. In 2006, Mr Makary
joined Dubai Investment Group, where he served as Project Manager
on the firm's multi-billion dollar acquisition of a stake in
Tunisia Telecom, alongside Dubai Holdings' TeCom investments. Prior
to this, Mr Makary worked for EFG Hermes in Cairo as a Vice
President helping to shape the region's emerging investment banking
industry. He went on to help establish the business' Dubai
corporate finance operations and worked on the advisory team
responsible for the privatization of the UAE telecoms market. He
began his career at ABN Amro's investment banking TMT group in New
York.
In 2008, Tamer was recognized for his work in advising Seera
Investment Bank (formerly UIB) on its US$ 200 m buyout of BWA Water
Additives, a deal named by the FT's Banker Magazine as the European
Islamic Finance Deal of the Year. More recently, in 2010,
Tamer secured Qatar National Bank as a 'Standby Buyer' in the
Rights Issue for a controlling stake in Bank Kesawan, marking the
first ever investment by a Middle Eastern bank into the Indonesian
conventional banking sector.
Mr Makary graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from
Columbia University and an International Economics and History
Degree from the London School of Economics.
